About Me- Joel Harris

JOEL HARRIS HEADSHOT_2.jpg

I’ve worked in mental health for more than 25 years, and one thing I’ve learned is that people rarely come to therapy with everything neatly figured out. Some people know exactly what they want to talk about. Others just know that something feels off, heavy, stuck, or harder than it needs to be.

Both are good places to start.

I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Memphis in 2016, and my experience has included work in schools, clinical settings, and private practice. Those settings have taught me to listen carefully, ask useful questions, and adapt therapy to the person in front of me rather than forcing people into a script.

My approach is collaborative, straightforward, and paced to you. Sometimes our work may involve slowing down and giving you room to think out loud. Other times, it may involve noticing patterns, talking through hard choices, or working together on practical ways to move forward.

As a biracial Seneca/Haudenosaunee and White clinician, and as someone who lives with chronic illness, I understand that identity, culture, belonging, and health can shape how people move through the world. I bring that awareness into therapy with respect, curiosity, and care.

I value honesty, mutual respect, and a therapeutic relationship where you can be yourself without judgment or pressure to perform.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, working with my hands through home and auto repair, spending time outdoors, traveling, and being with my partner, family, and friends.
